How to convert HEIC to JPG
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC. The format is efficient, about half the size of JPG for the same quality, but a lot of the world cannot open it: older Windows PCs, many websites, printing kiosks, some email clients. Converting to JPG fixes that. You can do it in your browser, in bulk, and your photos stay on your computer.
Steps
- 1Open HEIC to JPG and drop your photos. You can drop a whole folder.
- 2Set the JPG quality. 85 to 90 is a good balance between size and sharpness; 100 is largest.
- 3Press Convert. Each file is converted on your device.
- 4Download the JPGs individually or as one zip.
Stop the problem at the source
If you regularly share photos with people on Windows, you can tell the iPhone to shoot JPG: Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible. The trade-off is larger files. Many people keep HEIC for storage and convert only the photos they share.
What about Live Photos and bursts?
A Live Photo is a HEIC plus a short video. Converting the HEIC gives you the still image; the video part is separate. Bursts are individual HEIC files and convert normally.
JPG or PNG?
JPG for photos: smaller and universally supported. PNG only if you need a lossless copy for editing, at the cost of a much bigger file. HEIC to PNG is a separate tool.
Converting on each platform
- Windows: open the tool in any browser. No codec pack or Microsoft Store extension needed.
- Mac: Preview can export one file at a time; the tool converts a whole folder in one go.
- Android and Linux: the browser does the decoding, so it works the same everywhere.
- iPhone: you can also convert directly in Safari before sending the photos.
Privacy
Photos carry location data and faces. Every tool runs in your browser, so your files never leave your computer. The conversion uses a HEIC decoder running in your browser.
Questions
- Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
- A little, because JPG is lossy. At quality 90 the difference is invisible for normal viewing. Use PNG if you need a lossless copy.
- Can I convert HEIC on Windows without installing anything?
- Yes. Open the tool in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on Windows and drop the files. Nothing is installed and nothing is uploaded.
- How many photos can I convert at once?
- There is no fixed limit. Hundreds work fine; very large batches are limited by your computer’s memory.
